Standing out in MavySavvy

I'm always on the lookout for cute boutiques online for trendy attire that not everyone will have and wear; something that can reflect my personal style and uniqueness.  When I came across MavySavvy trend store, I was thrilled to find upscale products at a really great (and really affordable) price!

After checking back on their site for a week or so, I was happy to find new items and styles added daily!  Why? Mavy Savvy trend store is considered premium fast-fashion, which means its super affordable clothing that is affordable BUT to ensure uniqueness in your pieces, only a few of them are available for each item (YAY).  Not to worry that half your class or office will show up with the same top or dress, it's almost close to none of a possibility that you will run into someone wearing the same thing as you when shopping at MavySavvy.  Isn't that fab?!

3 Spring Trends I Love

Goodbye fall and winter trends, aloha to Spring 2013! This spring, there are a ton of new trends to abide by, but the 3 most favorite of all for me? Bermuda shorts, leather luxe, and peek-a-boo pieces.
To start, Bermuda shorts were all over the New York runways for Spring 2013, from Peter Som to DKNY, this slouchy, cool-girl short look is a look we all could pull off in office or on a day to day basis.  This ultra chic, flattering look could be dressed up or dressed down, I suggest you pair them with a button up collared shirt and a bib necklace, and voila!

Leather luxe is not just for winter months anymore, mix and match leather pieces, such as leather shorts or leather accented tops for a luxe leather look for Spring 2013.  Create a no fuss approach with minimalistic hair, makeup and accessories, and you'll have a no stress, no sweat factor look. For inspiration, look to designers like Derek Lam, Monique Lhuillier, and Proenza Schouler, that make leather luxe look easy as pie!

Lastly, who doesn't love a lil peek-a-boo, cut out here, cut out there on their spring outfit look? This spring, there will be no problem finding something sexy to wear with all the daring cutouts, baring midriffs, splits, sheer fabrics, and peek-a-boo clothing options out there.  Check out what was on the runways at BCBG, Alexander Wang, and Diane von Furstenberg for some sheer, daring cutout inspiration.

Winter Whites

Seriously, screw the no white after Labor Day 'fashion rule' and get familiar with the term, ready for it...winter white! 

Cool, creamy, and oh so sophisticated, you'll want to pair this shot of light with a dark hue, whether it be a black leather belt of a pop of neon color.  

Go on ahead an brighten up your winter blues with this stylish alternative to deep, dark, and depressing (did I say that?) winter colors.

Mara Hoffman Spring 2013

Designer Mara Hoffman showed her Spring/Summer collection to a packed house once again, and gladly, I was there to witness the excitement of the new collection in the Stage at Lincoln Center during Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week.

This season, the inspiration was the word “Aloha” – from the origin of peace in it’s meaning, to the spirit of the Hawaiian islands that it represents. The collection portrays the vibrant colors and spirit of island culture, from surfing to boating to resort and beach lounging. This is reflected in the overall look of the collection, from swimsuits worn on the runway, to Bermuda surf shorts, to the closing look- a long appliqued skirt worn with a cropped bustier top; Hoffman’s chic interpretation of a hula skirt look. 

As she explains, “Each season, my goal is to take the audience on a journey and express the transcendent feeling of love & positivity. This is what we wish to be known for and want to capture in our shows; always celebrating beauty and having a little fun with it.”

The show featured real floral hair pieces and leaf bracelets by Taylor Patterson from Foxfodder Farms, hair by Thomas Duncan forSebastian Professional, make up and nails by Charlotte Willer and Honey for Maybelline, shoes by Aperlai and music by Ben Brunnemer, as well as live Ukelele players (wearing Mara Hoffman Spring 2013 dresses).

Sneaker Wedge Lovin'

So, about them sneaker wedges.  I got myself a pair, from (get ready for this one), Target, and after quite a long wait (they were back ordered and only available on line, boo) they finally came in! Got quite a few 'mixed' feelings on them, but ya know what...I don't care watcha all think, because I love em, love em, love em.  

They are super comfy, basically like high top sneaks, but add a bit of height. That is all.

Chado Ralph Rucci RESORT 2013

I adore Chado Ralph Rucci, whether it be spring/summer, fall/winter, and especially resort.  First, the designer himself is not only a talented and impressive fashion designer, but he is also an artist, and personally, I believe the two go hand in hand. Fashion, art, culture, creativity. See how creative he got with his Resort 2013 collection, full of sequins, sheer mesh snippets, wide legged, wrap pants, and so much more!

Backstage Beauty: Prabal Gurung SS 2012

The inspiration: Neo-feminist. Inspired by Nobuyashi Araki's photographic series, "Sensual Flower."

Makeup: Lead artist Charlotte Tillbury, for MAC Cosmetics, focused the look around a matte fuchsia lip.

"Prabal wanted the lips to feel like there was an orchid growing out of them," says Tilbury. "Dreamy, but in an intoxicating way." She first lined the lips with MAC PRO Lip Pencil in Process Magenta, then filled them in with a blend of Lipmix in Fuchsia, Burgundy and Black -- creating an ffect that was darker on the inside, like a flower. Tilbury wanted the rest of the skin to have a high-shine effect: "Almost sci-fi looking," she says.

MAC Metal-X Cream Eyeshadow in Young Venus and Warm Thunder (available next spring) was then applied to the eyes, followed by a bronze sculpting powder below the cheek bones to highlight and define.

Tilbury then added MAC Strobe Cream in Pearl right above the cheeks to create even more sheen. She finished the look by adding a swipe of mascara to the outer lashes and gelling up the eyebrows.

Hair: Fekkai hairstylist Didier Malige wanted the models to look like they'd done their hair themselves: "Like they just washed it, and combed it back," he says. To get the slicked-back, still wet-looking style, Malige prepped the models' hair with Fekkai Coiff Extra Control Styling Gel. Then with a fine comb, created a center part. He then added Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Sheer Shine Mist to enhance the sleek, gelled style. The bottom half was flat-ironed straight and left dry.

Nails: Jin Soon Choi partnered with Sally Hansen to create three custom colors for Prabal's Spring 2012 collection: A minty, seafoam green (Barely Bluebell), a deep fuchsia (Purple Posy) and a dark, dark gleamy-metallic purple (Loves-Me-Not). For the show, this last shade was applied over Sally Hansen Lacey Lilac -- allowing a sliver of lilac to show -- creating a two-tone, reverse half-moon effect.

NYFW: Tadashi Shoji SS 2012

If you need to read the show notes to see the inspiration behind the designers collection, there is just something not right! With Tadashi Shoji, you didn’t have to read the show notes to pinpoint immediately thatTadashi Shoji was inspired by tulips this season, more specifically the tulip conveyed by photographer Ron van Dongen. The show opened with gorgeous petal and tulip skirts, dresses in a variety of colors and continued with a one-shoulder dress with a side puff akin to a bouquet of flowers. Other cocktail dresses came down the runway with accented grass-like washes of color.

The collection gave a sense of pleasant, airiness...it must have had to do with the silk linen, embroidered lace, and draped tulle. To describe his collection in one word, there is no other way than to say, Tadashi Shoji was simply...breath taking.

Nature Inspired Fashions

With all this Hurricane Irene talk, I felt inspired to do a post on hurricane inspired collections. Designers, apparently, have never had an inspiration that has come from a hurricane itself, so I am coming up with the next best thing here, give me a break ;) It’s no surprise that nature influences a number of high-profile fashion and jewelry designers; the environment and haute couture have a number of parallels.

Here are some of my favorite nature-inspired fashion (hey, a hurricane is a natural thing). Do you see where the inspirations of the designers below came from?

Five Fall Must Haves

With summer coming to a slow end and fall creeping on in, it’s time to know the must have items for fall 2010. You may think you know what your must haves are, but I know they will be your must “could HAVE beens” once you get through my short but truly must have items list. Trust me; you’ll thank me in the end.

CAMEL COAT

Runways from New York to Milan showcased camel non-stop for fall 2010, and no I’m not talkin’ the animal. Let’s just say, this season, camel is the new black.

SEQUINS

As much as we hate to love them, they are in and here to stay, for yet another fine season. Spice up a bland outfit with sequin shoes, sequin headband, and sequin anything for that matter.

Who doesn’t love wearing an obnoxiously large ring that makes you feel like a Queen? That’s right, I hear no one complaining or protesting, so go find yourself a nice big ol’ ring and flaunt them hands around, you know people will be loving you and your dandy ring, your highness.

MESSENGER BAGS

Perfect to stuff all the “necessities” of our day but cute enough to go out from day to night, quilted chain messenger hand bags are a must have for fall, as a matter of fact, any time of year with these fabuloso finds.
